Why this matters

If you use a proxy that promises DNS privacy but the public resolver matches your ISP, your DNS queries are likely leaking outside the tunnel.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is this the same as a DNS leak test?

    Not quite. A traditional DNS leak test requires a local client that can read your OS resolver. IPCombo observes the public side instead — what your network actually surfaces when asked.
  • Can a browser really detect DNS leaks?

    Browsers cannot directly read the OS resolver. But by comparing the DoH endpoint response, the plain HTTPS response, and the WebRTC candidate, we can usually detect DNS-shape anomalies.
  • What should I do if my DNS is leaking?

    Enable DNS-over-HTTPS in your browser or system, and verify your proxy is configured to route all DNS — including the bootstrap IP — through the tunnel.
