Direct access to Chinese services; bypass for foreign

🇨🇳 Mainland China

Mainland China is a special case. Domestic services (Bilibili, iQiyi, NetEase Music, DeepSeek, Kimi, Doubao) are reachable directly. Most foreign services (Google, ChatGPT, X, Netflix, Spotify) are blocked at the network layer. A working configuration is a smart-routing proxy: domestic direct, foreign via HK/JP/SG/US exit.

Service reach

Domestic: Bilibili, iQiyi, NetEase Music, QQ Music, DeepSeek, Kimi, Doubao, WeChat, Weibo, Bilibili, Youku, Taobao, JD, WeChat Pay, Alipay. Foreign via proxy: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, X, Discord, Telegram, GitHub, etc.

Best for

Limitations

  • No direct access to Google, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, X, Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Discord, Telegram
  • GitHub sometimes reachable, sometimes throttled
  • Foreign mobile apps often need workaround for push notifications

Pricing context

Foreign service pricing reflects US/EU. Domestic services are priced in CNY. YouTube Premium CN doesn't exist — use a regional IP and a payment method from a supported region.

Proxy tip

Smart routing is the only sane approach. Domestic targets (geosite:cn) go direct. Foreign targets (geosite:geolocation-!cn) go through your proxy exit. The proxy exit should be HK, JP, or SG for most users — US adds too much latency for daily use. Test your routing with IPCombo's per-target exit column to verify.
