Datacenter IP
An IP address allocated to a cloud or hosting provider, identified by its ASN.
Datacenter IPs are addresses in the ranges allocated to cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, Alibaba Cloud, Vultr, Linode, DigitalOcean) and traditional hosting providers (OVH, Hetzner). They are cheap, fast, and easy to source — which is why they're the default for most proxy services. They are also the default blocklist target for most consumer services.
Streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max) universally blacklist datacenter IPs. AI services (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) maintain rolling blocklists of cloud ASNs. Banking and payment services block datacenter IPs by default. The exceptions are general SaaS (Google search, GitHub, npm) and developer tools.
When you need a datacenter IP, use it for: development, CI/CD, scraping public websites, testing geo-blocking from a server. When you need a consumer service (streaming, AI, banking, crypto), use residential or mobile instead.
