How to pick the right proxy region for each service

Every region-aware service combines three to four signals: (1) your IP geolocation, (2) your account region (set at signup, often immutable), (3) your ASN reputation (datacenter vs residential vs mobile), and (4) your payment method country for paid services. Misalign any one and you get a degraded experience — usually a soft-block or a reduced library.

The hard cases: an account created in country A, with a payment method from country B, used from an IP in country C. Some services lock you out completely; others serve the catalog of whichever signal they weight heaviest.

We've curated 30 services across 5 channels, with hand-written recommended regions for each. The pattern: AI services almost always want US or JP, with KR/SG as backups. Streaming wants whatever region has the catalog you want — Netflix US for Western content, Netflix JP for anime. Crypto exchanges want a region the .com version serves (most of the world except US/UK/Canada for Binance, plus a small list for OKX).

For productivity tools (Notion, Slack, Zoom) the rule is almost always: match the IP region to wherever the company is registered. For Chinese streaming (iQiyi, Bilibili) the answer is the opposite: match to a residential CN IP, because their libraries are region-locked to mainland.

1. Run IPCombo's full test from your current IP. Look at the per-target real IP column. 2. Identify targets that show your real home IP — these are the ones your proxy is letting through (whitelisted or direct). 3. Identify targets that show your proxy exit IP — these are going through the proxy. 4. For any service where the current routing doesn't match its recommended region, switch your proxy rule for that domain and re-test.

If a service is blocked entirely (red X in the matrix), the issue is usually your proxy exit is on a known datacenter ASN that the service blacklists. The fix is a residential IP in the recommended region — not just any IP in that region.
